The National Police have arrested a 57-year-old Ukrainian fugitive in Alicante. The German authorities had filed a European arrest warrant (EAW) for him because he was part of a criminal organisation that stole high-end cars in 2020.
The Provincial Police Station said that the German authorities had issued a European Arrest Warrant. The National Police of Alicante learned about it through the International Fugitives Group of the General Police Station of Judicial Police. They thought the fugitive might have moved to the province of Alicante.
Because of this, the detectives started looking for the wanted individual. They found out he was in Alicante, and after setting up a police operation, they found him and arrested him.
The fugitive had run away from German law after being sentenced to ten years in jail for being part of a group that stole things.
The crimes happened in Ratingen, Germany, in 2020. The individual who was detained was part of a group that stole expensive cars. He was in charge of picking out the cars, giving orders, and paying the people who committed the crimes. He also gave the group garages to use to hide the stolen cars when they were taken.
He was also in charge of selling the cars later and setting up fake traffic incidents with the stolen cars so that he could trick insurance companies into paying him money.
The Central Court of Instruction on duty of the National Court, which is in charge of carrying out the steps for his later extradition, was given the Ukrainian guy who was arrested in Alicante.
