Yesterday morning, Thursday April 16th, at the Plaza Encarnación Puchol of La Mata, the Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, accompanied by the councilman of Transport, Antonio Vidal, has shown six new eurotaxis that are already operating in the city.
This increase is part of the process of increasing the number of euro-taxi licences in the municipality. The six already operating will be added to 10 more in the coming months: eight will be awarded shortly and the other two are being processed, so the total of new licences will be 16.
These vehicles, specially designed for those with impaired mobility, mean a big boost to the urban transport sector, boosting accessibility and assuring better service for users needs. These so-called Eurotaxis are accessible vehicles that conform to the defined technological specifications in order to enable the safe transport of persons of impaired mobility, including persons in wheelchairs.

At the same time, they allow to increase the capacity of the service and respond more efficiently to the existing demand in the municipality, with capacity for six, seven and nine people.
During the presentation, the Councillor for Transport stressed that “we are finally responding to a demand that we have had for many years in a service as important and essential as transport in our city,” also noting that “these six units are the vanguard of the eight new licences that are being awarded and that will allow us to continue expanding the service in the coming months.”
“One of the main objectives of this measure is to answer a clear demand and complaint from the citizens, as at certain times of the year finding a taxi is practically impossible,” said the mayor, who stressed that “with this increase in licenses we are going to improve the service considerably.”
He pointed out that this initiative is the result of the work carried out jointly by the City Council and the Torrevieja taxi sector, highlighting that “we have worked hand in hand with the sector, which is the one that knows the service and its needs best, to give a balanced response throughout the year.”
The mayor also highlighted the need to advance in accessibility, indicating that “these types of vehicles allow us to respond to a population with greater mobility needs, responding to the requirements of universal accessibility, improving the quality of service”.
With this effort the Torrevieja City Council continues to develop the public taxi service, extending its coverage and adapting it to the demands of the people of today.
