The Santa Pola Local Police have acted early on Saturday morning, April 18th, to a significant traffic accident on the national highway N-332, near the salt flats, with a single car and a single occupant. The car caught fire, but the accident was serious and no one was injured. The road was closed for about an hour between 4 AM and 5 AM while emergency personnel attended the area.
The crash happened in the early hours of the morning for reasons not yet known. According to available information, the fire was practically out when the firefighters arrived, albeit they did finish putting it out.
Due to safety, emergency operations and to reduce the risks of the fire and the car going off the road, the N-332 had to be closed for at least an hour. There has been no formal confirmation about the reason for the disaster. But under the conditions, it is feared it could have been caused by distraction or even sleep at the wheel, one of the most common causes of night accidents. Anyhow, the inquiry will tell us exactly what happened. The result is obvious: the road was reopened, no injuries occurred, but the fright was huge. The collision, which happened in the early hours of the morning and on the N-332, a major artery with a high number of accidents, serves as a reminder that a moment of inattention can end in tragedy… or, as in this case, in a “miracle” with no injuries.
