According to a statement from the provincial institution, the Alicante Provincial Council has recently issued two calls for environmental grants, which will disseminate €700,000 among the province’s municipalities to enhance public health and improve animal welfare.
In particular, the council intends to allocate €380,000 this year to conduct dipteran control interventions in municipalities, particularly those that have a higher presence of culicids and simuliids due to their terrain, such as flies and mosquitoes. The Provincial Council has announced that the application period is now open until May 4th, and the terms and conditions for this grant programme were recently published in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP). “A mosquito infestation, for instance, can escalate into a significant issue due to its vector status for the transmission of diseases and the bites it may cause.” Consequently, it is crucial to assist our local municipalities in the effective execution of these types of initiatives, which they may otherwise struggle to finance, as explained by the Deputy for the Environment, Magdalena Martínez.
The second financing initiative, which has been implemented, is designed to create sterilisation treatments for urban stray cat colonies. The budget for this initiative is €320,000. The application deadline for this programme is May 5th in this instance. “Once more, we are initiating this funding programme to prevent the environmental issues that an overpopulation of felines can cause in our towns and villages in a safe and effective manner,” Martínez stated.
