On the Orihuela Costa, a house fire resulted in the death of a 77-year-old woman and the injury of three other individuals due to smoke inhalation. The Emergency Information and Coordination Center reported that a SAMU (Emergency Medical Service) unit was necessary to respond to the fire that erupted at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25th.
The kitchen of a residence located on Calle Tiberiades was the origin of the fire. The fire originated in a toaster, and despite the presence of minimal material damage to the home, the smoke rapidly dispersed throughout the interior, according to initial reports. The accumulation of thick smoke was facilitated by the well-insulated chambers from the exterior.
Two patrol cars from the Orihuela Local Police were the initial responders, who discovered a neighbour conducting cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the woman. The officers also provided initial first aid until the emergency medical services arrived.
The victim was attended to by the SAMU medical team, which conducted resuscitation manoeuvres and other stabilisation techniques for a period exceeding 45 minutes. Nevertheless, there was no response, and the paramedics ultimately certified her death. It is suspected that the woman experienced cardiac arrest, which may have been caused by smoke inhalation.
Three transferred to Torrevieja Hospital
Three additional individuals were treated for smoke inhalation in addition to the deceased woman. Two women, whose ages have not been disclosed, and a 78-year-old male comprised this group.
The three injured were transported to Torrevieja Hospital in TNA after receiving assistance at the site.
