Fourteen individuals have been the subject of an investigation by the Guardia Civil for engaging in discriminatory chanting and threats, as well as causing damage to public property in Alginet. The incident also involved a 13-year-old boy, who is not criminally responsible.
In January 2026, a group of masked individuals was encountered by members of the Guardia Civil and the Local Police of Alginet near the metro station in the municipality of Alginet, which is located in the Ribera Alta region. Some of these individuals were carrying baseball bats, while others were damaging street furniture, making death threats, and expressing hostility toward the Arab community. According to a joint statement released by the Guardia Civil Command and the Local Police, they were also throwing powerful pyrotechnics and shouting in the street.
The masked individuals fled in a scattered fashion, despite the fact that they acted together. However, police work enabled them to identify some of the perpetrators at the site, and a subsequent review of security camera footage led to the identification of many others. Two baseball clubs were confiscated.
A total of fifteen individuals have been identified in the days that have followed the events. Five of them are minors, with one of them being under the age of 13 and therefore not liable for criminal activity. They are Spanish males who are between the ages of 13 and 40. They are accused of public disorder and the promotion and incitement of enmity in public.
Officers from the Carlet Main Station conducted the investigation. The case file was submitted to the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office and the Civil and Preliminary Investigation Section of the Carlet Court, which were each on duty.
