National Police officers have arrested seven people, including two minors, following a series of robberies across Elche during the May 1st Bank Holiday period. In one of the most notable incidents, two boys aged 15 and 16 were detained for breaking into a local nursery school. Investigators found that the pair had gained access to the building by climbing onto the roof. Once inside, they reportedly damaged the facilities and stole components from the air conditioning system.
In a separate incident in the city, an 18-year-old man was arrested after being caught inside a private home. The homeowner had left the property earlier that morning and mistakenly believed their keys had been dropped inside. It is suspected the intruder found the keys and used them to enter. The resident, assisted by neighbours, managed to restrain the suspect until police arrived.
The wave of arrests continued as two men, aged 44 and 50, were caught red-handed inside a construction site after a member of the public reported seeing them enter the restricted area. Furthermore, a 25-year-old man was detained two days after attempting to rob a car. Although he fled when the vehicle’s alarm sounded, he was captured on the car’s internal security cameras, allowing a patrol to identify and arrest him in the city centre later.
Finally, a 35-year-old woman was taken into custody for attempted robbery with violence. Officers on patrol intervened when they saw two women struggling in the street. The suspect had allegedly caused facial injuries to the victim while attempting to steal her mobile phone, requiring the victim to seek medical treatment. While the Guardia Civil often handles rural policing, these urban interventions were conducted by the National Police as part of a security crackdown over the holiday weekend.
