The public protection housing development currently under construction in the Poniente area of Benidorm is now expected to be completed by the summer of 2027. During a visit to the site yesterday, Monday May 4th, the Generalitat Valenciana confirmed that works are likely to conclude in April 2027, representing a delay of nearly a year compared to the original 2026 forecast. These timelines are connected to European fund financing, which initially set a deadline of 30 June 2026, though this has now been extended by several months.
The Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, accompanied the First Vice-President and Minister for Housing, Susana Camarero, to inspect the progress of the project. The promotion will consist of 117 homes, including garages and storage rooms, which are destined for social rent at affordable prices. This project is part of the Generalitat’s “Plan Viu” and represents an investment of approximately 10 million euro, funded through European resources.
A significant portion of the development—40 per cent, or 47 flats—will be specifically reserved for people under the age of 35 and single-parent families. Local authorities highlighted these groups as those facing the greatest difficulties in becoming independent or starting a life project. Furthermore, the building will include adapted and accessible apartments for individuals with functional diversity.
The application process for these rental properties has not yet opened. It is anticipated that the registration period will begin shortly before the construction is finished. Interested parties have been directed to the official portal, planvivecv.es, which now features a direct registration system to streamline the process and ensure transparency.
The residential building is being constructed on municipal land located between the avenues of Guatemala, Vicente Pérez Devesa, and El Moralet. While the project originally planned for 91 homes, it was later modified to add 26 additional units, bringing the total to 117 apartments across ten floors. Mayor Pérez noted that this is the first public housing initiative launched in the city in nearly 20 years, following a long period of inactivity. Currently, the basement is complete and work is progressing on the building’s structure, with the first floor almost finished.
