Ricardo Recuero warns of the “extraordinary” increase in the student body, which today exceeds 17,000 pupils, more than 6,000 compared to 2019. With the city enrolling almost 2,000 more kids in the last school year (2024/2025), there is a clear need to bolster educational resources.
The Councillor for Education of the Torrevieja City Council, Ricardo Recuero, has announced the start of the School Admission Campaign for the school year 2026/2027, aimed at families that need to register their sons and daughters in the stages of Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) and Baccalaureate.
This process, which is crucial for the educational planning of the upcoming school year, is taking place in a setting of demographic and school development never seen before in the city, which makes this campaign extremely relevant for families and for the public administrations involved.
In order to facilitate all operations, the City Council has created a complete information guide, which clearly explains how the process works, the official schedule, the scoring criteria and all the information essential to ensure the right submission of applications.
The procedure will be carried out entirely online using the official platform of the Valencian Government, which will allow families to handle their requests in an agile, transparent and accessible way.

A school system under strong demographic pressure
The councillor for Education, Ricardo Recuero, stressed that this year’s enrolment process is a clear reflection of the demographic progress of Torrevieja: “In 2019 we had 10,597 students enrolled in the municipality, and now, in 2026, we have already exceeded 17,000 students. “We are talking about more than 6,000 new students in just seven years, an absolutely exceptional number,” he said.
“This growth is not only quantitative, but also continuous and sustained over time, which exerts constant pressure on the local education system”, Recuero said. “In the 2024/2025 academic year alone, we had more than 2,000 additional students, a very significant increase that requires continuous adaptation of educational planning,” he stressed in this respect.
Planning, co-ordination and claim of resources
The Education Councillor added that the City Council is working in conjunction with the regional government to handle this situation: “We are facing a historic challenge that requires planning, anticipation and institutional commitment. Torrevieja is one of the localities in the whole of the Valencian Community with the most growth in students, and that needs a comparable response.”
Family support, transparency & guarantees
The Education Councillor reminded everyone that the admissions procedure is guided by objective and transparent criteria, such as the proximity of domicile, the presence of siblings already registered at the school, family income or other officially recorded particular circumstances. He also asked families to “review all documentation in advance and respect the established deadlines because it is a highly structured procedure with fixed dates.”
The City Council of Torrevieja provides citizens with updated information, assistance and accompaniment throughout the process, in conjunction with the educational facilities of the city.
Finally, Ricardo Recuero underlined that “education is a priority for this government team and we will continue working so that all students have access to a quality education in adequate conditions.”
