A significant anti-drug operation led by the Guardia Civil in Torrevieja has resulted in the arrest of 17 people and the closure of two drug houses. These locations were reportedly used as distribution hubs for heroin and cocaine, supplying the wider Vega Baja region.
The investigation, named “Operation Peka”, was initiated in February after a noticeable rise in petty crimes, including thefts and robberies, within two specific areas of Torrevieja. Officers from the Torrevieja Main Post identified that these crimes were being committed in the vicinity of the drug dens by users seeking to fund their habits through the exchange of stolen goods for narcotics.
The criminal network was headed by a 55-year-old man who coordinated the two sales points. One location was heavily fortified with reinforced steel doors, security cameras, and “lookouts” to warn of police presence. The leader was also found to be in possession of firearms to protect the business from rival gangs.
Following an intensive investigation, raids were carried out on 10th April. During the search of the two properties, officers seized a handgun, a blank-firing pistol, various quantities of drugs, and 9,700 euro in cash. They also recovered two vehicles and stolen items, including electric scooters.

The 17 individuals arrested include 14 men and 3 women, aged between 23 and 63. They face various charges, including drug trafficking, illegal possession of weapons, and membership of a criminal organisation. A judge in Torrevieja has already ordered the primary leader to be held in provisional prison.
The operation involved specialist units, including the Reserve and Security Group (GRS) from Valencia and the Citizen Security Unit (Usecic) of Torrevieja.
