The Councillor for Infrastructure at Orihuela City Council, Víctor Valverde, accompanied by the Councillor for the Coast, Manuel Mestre, has visited the ongoing works at Avenida del Cabo in Cabo Roig. The project aims to modernise this significant thoroughfare in Orihuela Costa.
With an investment of nearly 200,000 euro, a substantial portion of the public lighting renovation has already been completed. This has involved replacing old sodium vapour lamps with high-efficiency LED technology. As Víctor Valverde noted, this upgrade represents a major improvement in terms of energy efficiency, as well as increasing safety and visibility for both pedestrians and drivers.
The councillor explained that the new lights are already operational across much of the avenue. Over recent weeks, the benefits have become clear on a road that remains busy throughout the year, particularly during the summer months.
The project is now entering a new phase focused on enhancing pedestrian accessibility and replacing damaged elements of the road. Specifically, six new lamp posts will be installed at various points where they have been missing for years due to accidents and other damage. Improvements will also be made to the central reservation.
Furthermore, the plans include the modification of approximately fourteen pedestrian crossings to ensure they comply with current accessibility regulations. Some of these crossings lacked dropped kerbs, while others had gradients that did not meet legal standards. These are being rebuilt to ensure safer and easier passage for everyone.
Valverde emphasised that this intervention is not merely about changing light bulbs. Instead, it seeks to improve the overall condition of one of the main arteries in Cabo Roig through targeted actions on lighting, pedestrian mobility, and road infrastructure. The work is part of a wider municipal plan for infrastructure improvement and urban renewal driven by Orihuela City Council across the coastal area.
