Torrevieja is preparing for a significant transformation of its seafront as the new Paseo del Mar leisure centre is scheduled to open its doors this June. The ambitious project, located within the city’s port area, represents a total investment of 61 million euro and is expected to create 400 new jobs for the local community.
The development, which has faced several delays during its construction phase in 2024 and 2025, is now in its final stages. The project aims to bridge the gap between the city centre and the Mediterranean, turning a traditionally industrial port space into a vibrant hub for tourism and socialising. Spanning over 20,000 square metres, the complex will feature 27 commercial units across 8,500 square metres of floor space.

Visitors to the new site can look forward to a diverse range of facilities, including a multiplex cinema and an American-style bowling alley. The gastronomic offering is set to be a major draw, with confirmed tenants including popular chains such as McDonald’s, KFC, Foster’s Hollywood, and Saona, alongside specialized Japanese and Brazilian restaurants.
The 61 million euro investment has been largely driven by private concessionaires, including Empresas del Sol, with the project costs rising from an initial estimate of 20 million euro to ensure a high-specification finish. This private funding sits alongside extensive public works carried out by the Torrevieja City Council, which recently completed a 6.5 million euro renovation of the Levante breakwater promenade to improve accessibility and aesthetics in the surrounding area.
Management firm Óptima Global Services has confirmed that 100 per cent of the commercial spaces have been committed, with 80 per cent of lease contracts already signed. Once fully operational, the Paseo del Mar is intended to serve as a year-round attraction, boosting the local economy outside of the traditional summer peak and cementing Torrevieja’s status as a leading destination on the Costa Blanca.
