The Torrevieja Department of Sports has announced that the indoor municipal swimming pool at the “Tavi y Carmona” Sports Palace will remain closed until further notice. This decision follows the collapse of an air conditioning duct earlier today, Thursday, 14 May 2026.
According to the department, an anomaly was first detected in the supports of the ducting exactly one month ago, on 14 April 2026. At that time, the facility was closed as a preventative measure to ensure the safety of all users. The matter was reported urgently to SERVEO, the company contracted to maintain municipal sports facilities and responsible for the indoor pool.
Following the initial report, the maintenance company carried out repairs to rectify the issue and conducted a full review of the remaining ductwork. Once these works were finished, the company guaranteed the safety of the installation to the Department of Sports. Consequently, the pool reopened on Saturday, 18 April, with the assurance that it could remain fully operational until the scheduled summer closure.
However, following today’s collapse, the Department of Sports has requested an exhaustive report from SERVEO regarding the actions previously taken and the specific causes of this latest incident. The department has apologised to all users for the inconvenience and reiterated that they are working intensely to restore the service as quickly and safely as possible.
