The Guardia Civil has arrested a 29-year-old man in the town of Altea who was the subject of an international arrest warrant. The individual attempted to identify himself using suspected false foreign documentation during a routine public safety operation carried out by officers from the Altea Main Post.
The incident took place on March 31st while officers were performing crime prevention duties on a public road and stopped a vehicle to identify its occupants. During the intervention, the driver presented a foreign driving licence that immediately raised suspicions regarding its authenticity. The man subsequently provided a second foreign identification document, which was also believed to be a forgery. Consequently, the officers arrested him on suspicion of document fraud and took him to official facilities for further investigation.
Following extensive enquiries conducted in collaboration with various police units and through international cooperation channels, investigators established the suspect’s true identity. They confirmed that all the documentation provided was entirely counterfeit. Furthermore, investigators discovered that the man was wanted under an international warrant for crimes related to international drug trafficking.
The detainee was brought before the Altea Duty Court, which ordered his remand in provisional custody while the necessary procedures for his extradition to the requesting authorities continue.
