The Government’s Delegation against Gender Violence is currently investigating the murder of a woman in Dolores, Alicante, as a suspected case of gender violence. The victims have been identified as 51-year-old Marisol and her 24-year-old son, Alberto. The body of the 55-year-old Guardia Civil officer, who is the suspected perpetrator, was found in a hallway away from the other victims with a gunshot wound to the head and a pistol nearby. The bodies were discovered yesterday morning, Saturday May 16th.
The Guardia Civil is leading the investigation into the incident. According to sources from the armed institute, there were no previous records or reports of gender violence involving the couple.
Pilar Bernabé, the Government Delegate in the Valencian Community, has announced that the autopsies will be conducted tomorrow, Monday May 18th. The government delegate underscored that the investigation is currently in full motion, stating that an initial inspection has been conducted and that the autopsies of the three deceased individuals will be conducted tomorrow. She emphasised that “all lines of inquiry are open,” and as a result, the investigation into a potential gender-based homicide is also ongoing, as the parents were in a marital relationship.
In response to the tragedy, the Dolores Town Council has declared three days of official mourning. All scheduled festive activities in the municipality have been suspended following what local officials described as “the terrible events that occurred today”.
