A vehicle was destroyed by fire in the Gran Sol area of Calpe on Saturday, May 16th, after the occupants were forced to flee the car while it was in motion. The incident occurred when those inside the car noticed a strong smell of petrol followed by the appearance of smoke coming from the vehicle.
Acting quickly, the occupants managed to pull over and exit the car safely before the flames took hold. Local Police from Calpe arrived at the scene shortly after to secure the immediate area and manage traffic flow, ensuring the safety of other road users during the emergency response.
Firefighters from the Benissa auxiliary station were dispatched to tackle the blaze and successfully extinguished the fire. Once the flames were out, the charred remains of the car were removed from the road by a tow truck.
Members of Civil Protection Calp also attended the scene to provide support to the firefighting teams during the final damping down stages. Despite the dramatic nature of the fire and the significant damage to the car, no injuries were reported.
