The Torrevieja City Council has made progress in creating the future Alto de la Casilla urban park by recommending that the contract be awarded to a joint venture formed by ABALA Infraestructuras and ORTHEM Servicios y Actuaciones Ambientales. The proposal, valued at 10,370,583 euro, achieved the highest technical score among thirteen competing firms, including several major national construction groups.
The project is designed as a major green infrastructure and urban regeneration initiative for Torrevieja. Spanning approximately 30,000 square metres, the park aims to become a sustainable landmark for its residents. The layout features two main entrances and a central spine that organises the internal pathways. To ensure the space is usable year-round, the design incorporates extensive shaded areas for walking and relaxing.
Key amenities within the new park will include a wooded picnic area, two large themed children’s playgrounds with a capacity for 400 children, a panoramic viewpoint, and a cafeteria. The viewpoint is expected to offer views of the Torrevieja and La Mata salt lakes as well as the Mediterranean Sea. The cafeteria is planned to accommodate nearly 170 people and will include public toilets serving both the venue and the wider park.

Sustainability is a core focus of the landscape design, which includes the planting of 537 trees, such as Aleppo pines, cypresses, and jacarandas. Additionally, over 12,000 shrubs and 1,540 aromatic plants like lavender, rosemary, and thyme will be planted, prioritising species with low water requirements.
For visitors arriving by car or bicycle, the site will provide a car park with 89 spaces and a dedicated area for bicycle parking. If current schedules are maintained, construction is expected to begin shortly, with a projected completion date in early 2027.
