Eight individuals have been expelled from Spain following serious incidents involving illegal pyrotechnics during the Valencia Fallas festival. The Sub-delegation of the Government in the Valencian Community ordered the removals after the group was caught throwing prohibited firecrackers at members of the public and police officers.
The group consists of six German citizens, one Swiss national and one individual from the Netherlands. In addition to their immediate expulsion, all eight have been handed a five-year ban from entering Spanish territory.
These arrests were part of a large-scale security operation deployed for the 2026 Fallas. In total, the National Police detained thirteen men, aged between 22 and 41, on charges including public disorder, criminal damage, causing injury and assaulting police officers.
According to the police investigation, some of the suspects covered their faces to avoid identification while launching “carretillas” and other explosive devices directly into the crowds. The group also targeted police vehicles and officers on duty. One officer required hospital treatment for burns and facial injuries sustained during the attacks.
Further incidents were reported at a local hotel, where one individual reportedly threw high-powered firecrackers from windows and in common areas. One device was even detonated inside a guest room, resulting in significant material damage.
While the criminal cases against the individuals remain open, the administrative decision to expel the eight tourists was confirmed following a review of legal reports and appeals. Authorities have noted a rising concern regarding the use of unauthorised high-power pyrotechnics during the festival, many of which are purchased outside of Spain.
