Orihuela Town Council has officially reopened the Blue Trail in Cabo Roig following the completion of urgent repair works. The coastal path, which runs between the beaches of Cala Capitán and La Caleta, had been closed to ensure public safety after being severely impacted by adverse weather conditions.
The project was launched after heavy rainfall during February and March, combined with powerful waves from recent storms, caused significant structural damage to the masonry wall supporting the walkway. In two specific sections, the wall had collapsed entirely, leaving the path without support and creating a dangerous environment for the many residents and visitors who use the route daily.
Because the path is situated on maritime-terrestrial public land, the local government had to prepare a technical report and obtain formal authorisation from the Coastal Authority before any work could begin. Once approved, the repairs were completed in approximately two weeks.

The restoration work, carried out by the public company Ecoplan, involved clearing the affected areas and reinforcing the wall using riprap stone. These measures have stabilised the trail and ensured it is once again safe for pedestrian use.
Pepe Vegara, the Mayor of Orihuela, visited the site alongside the Councillor for Infrastructure, Víctor Valverde, and the Councillor for the Coast, Manuel Mestre. The Mayor praised the speed of the intervention, noting that the trail is one of the most valued and frequently used spots on the Orihuela Costa.
Councillor Valverde confirmed that normality has now returned to this stretch of the coastline, with the path fully prepared for the high volume of traffic it receives throughout the year.
