The National Police have arrested three men aged 50 and 62 in Benidorm on suspicion of drug trafficking after intercepting around 15 kilos of heroin hidden inside a suitcase in a taxi. The discovery was made during a police checkpoint in the English zone of the town. Following the police proceedings, the arrested individuals were placed at the disposal of the duty court, which has ordered all three to be remanded in custody, according to a statement from the security forces.
Officers from the operational response group of the Benidorm Police Station were carrying out a checkpoint on one of the town’s roads in the English zone when they noticed a taxi. Travelling inside the vehicle, in addition to the driver, were three men who were making strange movements as if they were trying to hide something. In light of this behaviour, the police pulled the car over to carry out appropriate checks on both the occupants and the vehicle.
Once they proceeded to identify and carry out a security search of the occupants, one of them bolted and tried to flee, although he was immediately intercepted by the officers. When the officers inspected the luggage, they located various wrapped packages containing heroin inside a suitcase, leading to the arrest of the three men on suspicion of a drug trafficking offence.
Among the belongings of the arrested men, the police also seized eight high-end mobile phones, a notebook with annotations, and cash consisting of 95,000 Hungarian forints, 425 Turkish liras, and 85 euro.
