Three of the ten people arrested by the National Police in a major operation carried out on Monday, 1st June, in Alicante, Torrevieja, and San Vicente to dismantle an illegal immigration and drug trafficking network have been remanded in custody. Two of them were detained specifically for this case, while the third was remanded on an international arrest warrant for extradition to another country. The police operation was overseen by a court in Denia.
The investigation, led by the Central Unit against Immigration Networks and Document Fraud (UCRIF) of the General Immigration Police Station, with participation from the UCRIF of Alicante and other provinces, also has ramifications in Vitoria. A person was arrested in Vitoria and brought before a judge on Thursday, with a local court there also agreeing to their imprisonment.
Of the ten people arrested across the province of Alicante, half were released after giving statements at police stations. The remaining five were brought before the Court of First Instance of Denia yesterday, Thursday 4th June, where the judicial investigation is being handled.
The Denia court ordered provisional detention without bail for two of these individuals. The other three were released with the obligation to appear before the court when required, according to details provided by the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community. One of the suspects granted release in this specific case was already in prison, having previously been placed at the disposal of the National Court due to an international arrest warrant.
All those involved remain under investigation in an open case for crimes of facilitating illegal immigration, crimes against public health, and integration into a criminal group.
