The Department of Parks and Gardens at Torrevieja Town Hall has carried out new improvement and maintenance works in the Aromatic Park, one of the most unique green spaces in the city. The actions seek to reinforce its landscape and environmental value through the incorporation of new Mediterranean species and the improvement of different areas of the enclosure. The park covers an area of nearly 70,000 square metres and constitutes a reference space for residents, visitors, athletes and nature lovers. Its location next to the natural environment of La Mata, its paths and its rest areas consolidate it as one of the main green lungs of Torrevieja.
Among the actions carried out, the planting of thyme, lavender and rosemary stands out, three aromatic species typical of the Mediterranean landscape. These plants are characterised by their resistance to the dry climate, their ornamental value and their ability to favour the presence of pollinating insects. Thyme is one of the most representative species of the Mediterranean mountains. It stands out for its intense aroma and for its resistance to high temperatures and scarcity of water. Furthermore, during its flowering period, it is especially appreciated by bees and other pollinating insects. Lavender, recognised for its violet tones and its fragrance, adds ornamental value to the park and contributes to generating an attractive landscape during a good part of the year. Its flowering also favours biodiversity by attracting numerous pollinators. For its part, rosemary is one of the best-known aromatic plants of the Mediterranean basin. Its hardiness allows it to remain in good condition even in periods of high drought, and its flowering provides a source of food for beneficial insects. Alongside these plantings, municipal teams have installed and improved irrigation systems in different areas of the park.
