A special blood donation campaign in Pilar de la Horadada, organised by the Alicante Blood Transfusion Centre to mark World Blood Donor Day on 14th June, has concluded with an excellent result thanks to the solidarity of local residents.
Running under the slogan “Join the factory of life, donate blood, donate plasma”, the drive finished on 26th June with a total of 53 effective blood donations, a figure that highlights the community’s commitment to a life-saving cause.
During the session, 59 people attended the designated donation points, including five individuals who gave blood for the very first time. This introduction of new donors is considered particularly important for ensuring a new generation of regular donors and helping to maintain stable blood reserves.
The Councillor for Health, Nieves Moreno, expressed her gratitude for the public’s participation and emphasised the vital impact of this supportive gesture. She noted that each donation is processed into three essential components — red blood cells, plasma, and platelets — meaning that the generosity shown will help to save or improve the lives of up to three patients.
With the arrival of the summer season, blood reserves typically experience a decline due to holiday travel. The successful results achieved in this campaign will help support safer stock levels at the start of the summer period, ensuring the necessary supply for surgical procedures, cancer treatments, births, emergencies, and the care of serious accident victims.
The Alicante Blood Transfusion Centre reminds the public that the need for blood remains constant 365 days a year, and invites people to turn donation into a regular habit by visiting local donation points periodically.
The Town Hall of Pilar de la Horadada thanked everyone who took part and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting initiatives that support public health and community solidarity.
