The National Police have arrested two young men, aged 19 and 21, for allegedly assaulting a man and stealing his wallet in Benidorm. The incident was captured in a video currently circulating on social media. The suspects also ambushed a woman from behind and violently snatched her handbag in the same holiday town.
The victim alerted passersby in the area where the handbag was stolen, and they followed the alleged attackers. The members of the public managed to catch up with them and successfully recovered the stolen item, according to sources from the security forces.
Officers from both the National Police and the Benidorm Local Police were deployed to the scenes of both incidents. After treating the victims and taking custody of the two men who had been detained by the citizens, officers established a potential connection between the two crimes regarding the identity of the suspects.
Consequently, they determined that the two young men allegedly carried out both offences and arrested them on charges of robbery with violence, theft and causing injuries. The suspects were brought before the courts in Benidorm on Tuesday, 30th June.
According to the same sources, the male victim who appeared in the social media video was discharged after receiving treatment at a hospital, as his injuries were not serious.
