Benidorm Council has installed an adapted bathing area for people with reduced mobility on Poniente beach for the second consecutive year. Located next to the Accessible Beaches area of Elche Park, the installation features a seating area in the water and a walkway to make entering the sea safer, complementing the year-round services provided on the city beaches for individuals with mobility challenges.
The Councillor for Beaches, Monica Gomez, visited the facility to speak directly with users and the Accessible Beaches staff, who highlighted the positive reception from the public.
According to the councillor, this bathing area, which enjoyed considerable success last summer, provides people with reduced mobility with a space tailored to their needs so they can cool down and enjoy the sea independently. Furthermore, the inclusion of handrails ensures that individuals with mobility issues who do not require an amphibious chair can access the sea in a practical and secure manner.
The adapted bathing area contains 22 seats and is covered by a canvas awning to protect users from the sun. The service is scheduled to remain operational until 15th October, covering the months of highest demand. Monica Gomez noted that Benidorm was a pioneer in promoting beach accessibility by opening dedicated accessible beach points, which ensure that everyone can fully enjoy a day at the beach.
During the summer season, Benidorm operates three accessible beach points managed by staff from the company holding the comprehensive beach management concession, who assist with adapted bathing. These three points are located at Elche Park and opposite Mont Benidorm Avenue, both on Poniente Beach, and near Calle Murcia on Levante Beach. The points at Levante and Elche Park provide services throughout the entire year.
Additionally, with the arrival of the high season, the Department of Beaches has installed two toilets to serve visitors at the Ti Ximo and Almadraba coves. These have been operational since 1st July and will remain in place until the end of summer.
