Eight people have been injured after a city bus veered off the road and crashed into the front of a house in Cartagena. The emergency services received several calls warning of the collision in the Los Barreros neighbourhood, noting that people were hurt and that the bus driver was trapped inside the vehicle.
According to preliminary information, the driver was forced to swerve to avoid a car that had ignored a stop sign, causing him to lose control of the bus. The vehicle mounted the pavement, uprooted a tree, and ended up wedged against the facade of the residential property. Local residents and shopkeepers quickly stepped in to manage the traffic before emergency teams arrived on the scene.
A large emergency response team, including local police, civil protection, and firefighters from Cartagena, quickly arrived at the crash site. They were supported by four ambulances from the 061 emergency medical service, two of which were mobile intensive care units.
Paramedics treated and transported a total of eight casualties to the city’s two main hospitals. Six of the injured individuals — three women aged 19, 27, and 34, and three men aged 30, 49, and 63 — were taken to the Nuestra Señora del Rosell University General Hospital. The other two casualties, an 83-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, were transferred to the Santa Lucía University General Hospital. Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
