The PSOE in Torrevieja has welcomed the announcement regarding the advance transfer of land intended for the expansion of Torrevieja Hospital. The socialists described the infrastructure project as necessary for the health department, though they noted it remains clearly insufficient to meet the growth demands of Health Area 22.
However, the opposition party highlighted that the Partido Popular has had to rectify its initial plans after presenting a regional budget that once again excluded the investment. Bárbara Soler, the spokesperson for the PSOE in Torrevieja, criticised the situation, stating it demonstrates the lack of importance the Consell of the Partido Popular and regional deputy Eduardo Dolón place on the municipality. She claimed that for the second consecutive year, the Partido Popular failed to include the project in the Consell budget, despite having spent months announcing it publicly.
According to the socialists, the Mayor of Torrevieja and various officials from the Generalitat had repeatedly assured the public over recent months that the hospital expansion would become a reality, even presenting the land transfer this week. Despite these promises, the funding line for the project was missing when the draft budget for the year was officially presented.
In response to the omission, the PSPV-PSOE met with the Plataforma por la Sanidad Pública del Área 22 to assess the primary needs of the health department. Following public denunciations, the PSPV submitted amendments to the budget to integrate these requirements. Parallel to this, the Partido Popular submitted a self-amendment to ultimately include the hospital expansion back into the autonomous accounts.
Soler emphasised that while the most important outcome is that the essential expansion moves forward, the project would have faced another non-fulfillment by the Consell had the omission not been publicly exposed. The PSOE reiterated that while the expansion is a positive step, it is insufficient for a health department that is growing well beyond the capacity of its current infrastructure. The party stated it will continue to advocate for further public healthcare investments, the reinforcement of primary care and emergency services, and the creation of new facilities to guarantee quality healthcare for citizens.
