The latest investigations carried out over the weekend into the discovery of a man’s body in a villa within a luxury development in Torrevieja suggest that it was not a violent death, as initially suspected. The autopsy, which is pending further analysis at the National Institute of Toxicology, has ruled out violent injuries as the cause of death. Therefore, it will be necessary to await additional tests to determine how the man, a Spanish national, died.
The body was discovered by the owner of the villa last Friday, 10th July, in the exclusive and luxurious residential area of La Veleta in Torrevieja, and the Guardia Civil ended up arresting this person for his alleged involvement in a homicide case, although he is now free without precautionary measures.
However, following the autopsy results and the filing of a “habeas corpus” petition in court by the defence lawyers of the arrested man, Iván Rodríguez Lorente and Francisco Miguel Galiana Botella, the Guardia Civil agreed last Sunday to release him before the legal deadline of 72 hours to bring him before the court, also taking into account the cooperation he provided to the investigators since the discovery of the body.
The body, which was lying on the floor of an outdoor terrace of the chalet, showed some injury that could have been caused by a sharp object, and there was quite a bit of blood, hence the initial thought of a violent death. The victim is an acquaintance of the chalet owner, and the exact date of his death is unknown, although the coroner estimates that he may have been dead for a day.
The investigations continue. With the forensic report ruling out violent injuries as the cause of death, the Guardia Civil continues its investigations to clarify the circumstances of this death and does not rule out any hypothesis, including that the injuries that caused the presence of abundant blood remains were caused by a fall, whether accidental or for another reason.
The Guardia Civil specialists spent the entire afternoon of last Friday inspecting the plot of the chalet where the body appeared, and the investigations continued the following day to clarify all doubts about the sequence of events recounted by the owner of the house. Following the release of the arrested man, the owner of the villa appeared this Monday in the Torrevieja court that is handling the case and, although he is still under investigation while the proceedings continue, no precautionary measures have been agreed upon.
