Firefighters from the Alicante Provincial Consortium responded to an urgent incident in Torre de la Horadada, a district of Pilar de la Horadada, where they successfully evacuated a patient who had suffered a cardiac arrest through the window of a house. Their prompt intervention allowed the attending medical team to keep the patient in a horizontal position and continue providing vital medical assistance throughout the extraction process.
The incident occurred last Saturday, 11th July, though details have only recently emerged. The emergency medical services (SAMU) were alerted by the Generalitat’s Emergency Coordination Center (CICU) at approximately 7:15 p.m. Paramedics based in Orihuela Costa arrived at the scene a few minutes later, at around 7:22 p.m. The medical team performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and successfully restored a pulse to the patient, who is a man in his 30s.
However, as the medical team was preparing to lower the patient, he suffered a second cardiac arrest. Although evacuating him by wheelchair down the stairs was initially considered, this option was ruled out because it was absolutely necessary to keep him ventilated, stable, and completely horizontal during his descent from the first-floor window of the property in this coastal area of Pilar de la Horadada.
Faced with this critical situation, the health workers requested the immediate assistance of firefighters from the Provincial Consortium. The rescue team deployed a ladder truck dispatched from the Torrevieja fire station.
The main objective was to safely move the patient out through the window using the ladder to facilitate continuous medical assistance during the evacuation. This complex operation was supported at the scene by several Guardia Civil officers from the Torre de la Horadada station.
The entire rescue operation lasted approximately one hour, from the initial arrival of the emergency medical services until the patient was transferred to Torrevieja University Hospital. No further details have been released regarding the patient’s subsequent condition.
