The Provincial Court of Alicante, sitting in its Elche section, is set to try a man today, Wednesday 15th July, accused of attempted murder after he allegedly tried to beat his father to death in Callosa de Segura. The incident took place on 11th June 2024, when the victim went out to walk his dog in a garden near the home he shared with the defendant.
According to the prosecution, the defendant followed his father to the location and repeatedly struck him using a stick and a brick. The 61-year-old victim suffered severe injuries as a result of the attack, requiring a total of 175 days to heal.
The severity of the injuries forced the victim to spend 37 days in the Intensive Care Unit, with his condition worsening due to the repeated blows received during the assault.
Consequently, the public prosecutor considers the defendant guilty of attempted homicide. However, the prosecution has put forward the mitigating circumstance of mental impairment, noting that the defendant suffers from paranoid schizophrenia. The state is formally requesting his confinement in a psychiatric facility for a period of nine and a half years.
