The National Police have dismantled a criminal gang that allegedly carried out violent robberies in inhabited homes by posing as police officers. Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the crimes, which took place in the cities of Alicante and Marbella. The group utilised real firearms, tactical silencers, and authentic-looking police gear—such as vests, caps, and flashing lights—to deceive their victims and facilitate their crimes. In total, the gang is accused of stealing property and cash valued at approximately 400,000 euro.
The investigation began in December last year following two violent robberies inside homes in Alicante. Officers encountered difficulties tracking the suspects due to their highly mobile lifestyle and the prolonged periods they spent outside Spain. However, persistence paid off when investigators located the group in Marbella, where they were preparing to stage another raid.
The five suspects were intercepted while travelling in a van through the Andalusian city. Inside the vehicle, officers discovered five handguns, tactical silencers, substantial ammunition, and an array of police gear, including clothing, handcuffs, and vehicle beacons. They also found 31,500 euro in cash, GPS trackers, frequency jammers, cable ties, and cloned registration plates. Subsequent searches at four properties in Marbella and Fuengirola led to the seizure of six high-end vehicles.
All five detainees have appeared before a judge and face charges including armed robbery, illegal possession of weapons, document forgery, assault, invasion of privacy, usurpation of public functions, and membership of a criminal group. The investigation remains open, and European Arrest Warrants have been issued for two additional gang members currently believed to be outside Spain.
