A helicopter has rescued a 40-year-old woman after she suffered a knee injury in the Fuentes del Algar natural area in Callosa d’en Sarrià.
Emergency services received the call at approximately 11.34am yesterday, Thursday 23rd July, after the woman sustained a contusion to her knee while visiting the upper section of the torrent. Due to the rugged terrain and difficult ground access, the Alicante Provincial Firefighters Consortium deployed a rescue helicopter alongside members of the Special Rescue Group (GER).
Upon reaching the scene, specialists lowered themselves from the aircraft with medical personnel to deliver initial medical care. The casualty was then winched into the helicopter using a hoist operation.
The victim was flown directly to the Finestrat helipad, where a Basic Life Support ambulance was waiting to transfer her. She was subsequently taken to the Marina Baixa Hospital in Villajoyosa for further treatment. The entire rescue operation took around two hours and was completed without further incident by 1.23pm.
