Elche Town Hall is continuing the installation of nearly twenty educational speed radars across various neighbourhoods and rural districts in the municipality. The initiative aims to improve road safety, particularly in school environments and at the entrances to urban areas within the districts.
The Councillor for Districts, Loli Serna, visited one of the devices already set up on Avenida de Cortes Valencianas, next to the CEIP Jaume I primary school. Work will continue over the coming weeks until all the display panels are installed and fully operational.
These devices show drivers their speed in real time using a visual system. Drivers see a green smiling face when keeping within the 30 kilometres per hour speed limit, and a red face if they exceed it.
Serna highlighted that these radars being installed throughout the municipality will not issue fines. She explained that their purpose is to raise awareness among drivers and protect pedestrians, especially in sensitive areas such as schools.
The councillor added that the project responds to requests made by local residents and neighbours. She stated that the departments of Districts and Mobility are continuing to listen to citizens and will keep working to ensure road safety across both urban neighbourhoods and rural areas.
The educational radars are being placed near several educational centres, including CEIP La Asunción, Jaume I, Francesc Cantó, Jorge Guillén, Luis Vives, Dama d’Elx, Ferrández Cruz, and Clara Campoamor. They are also being installed at the entrances to Las Bayas, Valverde, La Galia, and Peña de las Águilas.
