The Regional Ministry of Environment, Infrastructure, Territory and Recovery has awarded the Typsa group the contract to draft the basic project and all technical, economic and administrative documentation required for the future expansion of the CV-95 highway between Orihuela and Torrevieja.
Worth 1,317,969.27 euro, the contract marks an essential step prior to executing the strategic infrastructure project aimed at improving mobility across the Vega Baja region. A total of eleven offers were submitted during the bidding process, reflecting strong commercial interest in the scheme.
The contract will technically define the project, study options for upgrading the road, and prepare the documentation needed for the subsequent public works concession tender. It also includes evaluating the technical, economic and environmental viability, alongside establishing the contractual framework for executing the future infrastructure.
Options under consideration include converting the road into a dual carriageway and constructing bypasses to boost capacity and reduce traffic passing through urban centres.
The affected route covers approximately 26.5 kilometres, running through or bordering the municipalities of Orihuela, Bigastro, Jacarilla and San Miguel de Salinas. The CV-95 currently has a single lane in each direction and experiences high traffic density, particularly during summer months when the regional population grows significantly.
The preliminary works will also help structure the future concession for the overall infrastructure project, which carries an estimated total investment of around 180 million euro. The project aims to improve connectivity between the interior of Vega Baja and the coastline, enhance road safety, and facilitate mobility for both residents and visitors.
With this contract award, the Generalitat continues to advance planning for an initiative considered vital to meet rising transport demands along one of the primary road corridors in the region.
