The Local Police in Benidorm have issued an alert following the detection of a group of fake sunbed attendants posing as legitimate staff from the sunbed and parasol rental service. The scammers have been targeting beachgoers by charging them using fraudulent receipts.
Police spokesperson Quique Tortosa confirmed that officers detected the presence of several young people posing as fake attendants on the town’s beaches. Officers have already identified the individuals involved and uncovered the method being used to carry out the scam.
Authorities explained that potential victims can easily spot the fraudulent tickets by checking the details provided upon hiring the equipment. The main difference is the price. The fake receipts charge a fee of 18 euro for hiring a sunbed, whereas genuine tickets reflect the actual rate of 6 euro for a sunbed, which is the same price charged for a parasol. Official prices are also clearly posted on information signs located at the entrances to the beaches.
Another key identifier is the serial number printed on the receipt. On the fraudulent tickets, the serial number remains identical every time, whereas legitimate receipts display a unique serial number for every individual transaction.
