Netflix is set to produce a new documentary focused on one of the most high-profile crime cases of recent years in Alicante: the unsolved murder of María del Carmen Martínez, widow of the former vice-president of Caja de Ahorros del Mediterráneo (CAM).
The streaming platform is currently concluding contracts and administrative procedures to begin filming in the city of Alicante. The documentary will revisit the intricate details of the Sala case, delving back into the private affairs of a prominent multi-millionaire family that was shattered following the tragic death of its matriarch.
The project follows previous true-crime productions set in the region, such as the feature detailing the life of María Jesús Moreno, who was from Novelda. The new documentary on the Sala case is also expected to examine surrounding mysteries, including the investigation into the disappearance and burnt vehicle of businessman Jesús Tavira in Alicante, who was one of the witnesses linked to the case.
