The Conselleria de Sanidad will allocate 29.4 million euro during 2026 for the renovation and expansion of the Hospital Universitario Marina Baixa. The president of the Generalitat, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, noted that this funding forms part of a strategic project with an overall budget exceeding 102 million euro, following an updated design to adapt it to current healthcare needs.
The head of the Consell stated that this investment planned for 2026 will allow continuous progress on a strategic initiative for the Marina Baixa region. The project represents a qualitative leap in healthcare capacity and modern facilities, offering faster, safer care adapted to the present and future requirements of the population. Pérez Llorca pointed out that the expanded facility will be prepared to meet healthcare demands for decades to come, featuring modern spaces, increased capacity, and cutting-edge technology for both patients and staff.
The expansion will significantly increase the care capacity of the Departamento de Salud Marina Baixa. Key developments include the addition of 113 new hospital beds to respond to growing regional demand. The project also incorporates a new intensive care unit with 14 beds, representing an increase of two beds, alongside state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment including new CT and MRI scanners.
A newly designed emergency department will offer greater capacity than the existing facility, featuring a 12-bed short stay unit and expanding observation spaces from 20 to 27 beds. The number of clinical care boxes will rise from 14 to 33, comprising 10 pre-admission beds, 11 intermediate care beds, and 12 observation beds, aimed at improving response capacity and reducing waiting times.
Surgical facilities will also expand significantly from eight to thirteen operating theatres. Dedicated spaces for major outpatient surgery will be separated from conventional surgery to optimise patient workflows. Additionally, the critical care resuscitation room will increase its capacity from three to eight stations, the post-anaesthesia recovery unit will expand from 11 to 16 stations, and major outpatient surgery capacity will rise from eight to 20 stations to boost surgical activity and deliver more efficient care.
The regional president framed this project within the broader commitment by the Generalitat to modernise healthcare infrastructure across the Comunitat Valenciana, highlighted by a record 2026 health budget of 9,453 million euro.
