National Police officers have arrested a man wanted by French judicial authorities for alleged drug trafficking offences at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport, in the municipality of Elche.
The suspect was the subject of a European Arrest and Surrender Order issued by France. According to the provided information, he allegedly played a central role within a criminal organisation dedicated to transporting hundreds of kilograms of narcotic substances between France and Spain.
The investigation began after communication was received within the framework of international police and judicial cooperation via the Fugitive Location Group of the Central Drug and Organised Crime Unit. The alert indicated the potential presence of the wanted individual in the Region of Murcia.
Following this lead, officers from the Drug and Organised Crime Unit of the Provincial Judicial Police Brigade of the Murcia Regional Police Headquarters carried out various enquiries to track down the fugitive. These investigations confirmed that he was in Spain and allowed officers to locate him on Sunday, 16 August, at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport.
The arrest was carried out with the assistance of the Operational Support Group of the National Police in Murcia. At the time of his arrest, the suspect was accompanied by two other French citizens.
Following his arrest, the man was placed at the disposal of the Central Court of Instruction of the Audiencia Nacional, which ordered his remand in provisional custody while extradition proceedings to hand him over to the French judicial authorities were initiated.
