National Police have arrested a man and a woman in Alicante, aged 28 and 34, as alleged perpetrators of a drug trafficking offence after being caught riding an electric scooter while carrying a backpack containing around 400 grams of cannabis buds.
The incident occurred when an plainclothes patrol spotted the couple riding along the public street, carrying out unusual manoeuvres that endangered traffic and their own safety, according to the National Police.
After pulling them over and identifying themselves as officers, the couple displayed a nervous attitude, leading the police to search their belongings.
Inside a backpack, officers located around 400 grams of cannabis buds, resulting in the immediate arrest of both individuals for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
Following the arrests, officers requested judicial authorisation to search the couple’s home, where they seized approximately seven kilograms of cannabis, 900 grams of hashish, 13 kilograms of sweets and other edible products containing THC, along with precision scales and a vacuum packaging machine.
During the search, officers also located various accounting notes and contracts relating to a cannabis club in Alicante.
According to the investigation, the detainees managed a cannabis association alongside other people and, given the quantity of substances seized, officers believe they may have been its primary suppliers.
Following the completion of police proceedings, both detainees were placed at the disposal of the duty magistrates’ court in Alicante.
