Local Police officers in Alicante have seized more than 3,000 counterfeit products in a targeted operation against street vending and unapproved sales in the Plaza del Puerto area.
Working in coordination with the Port Police, officers inspected three stall points where they found fake items on display and in storage. The raid uncovered counterfeit jewellery that imitated well-known brands such as Pandora, Gucci, Swarovski, and Louis Vuitton. In addition, officers confiscated replica T-shirts, various textile goods, and fake designer handbags.
Authorities estimate that the seized goods would have reached a total street value of 120,000 euro.
Following the crackdown on the sale of counterfeit goods, police have initiated criminal proceedings against three individuals for alleged offences against industrial property.
Throughout the summer period, Local Police have stepped up patrols targeting illegal street vending due to the high volume of visiting tourists, focusing particularly on the seafront, the promenade, and the Plaza del Puerto. These monitoring efforts have resulted in the confiscation of thousands of illicit items.
Security Councillor Julio Calero emphasised that it is essential to combat this illegal activity, noting that it is tied to counterfeiting, offences against industrial property, and labour violations, while also driving the underground economy.
