The National Police have reinforced their presence on Postiguet beach in Alicante and its immediate surroundings, leading to the arrest of four individuals caught in the act of stealing from bathers. The operation succeeded in solving recently committed crimes and recovering stolen items through police coordination, public cooperation, and plain-clothes patrols.
The first incident involved two young women who reported at the central police station in Alicante that someone had stolen their belongings while they were swimming. Officers gathered details from witnesses and the victims, pointing towards two men seen lingering near their towels before leaving with matching backpacks. Officers located two men aged 24 and 27 at the local bus station who appeared nervous upon seeing the police. A search revealed four mobile phones, which officers quickly matched to the victims, leading to the arrest of both men for theft.
In a second intervention on Postiguet beach, beachgoers alerted officers to a man who was attempting to steal belongings on the sand. One member of the public held a 25-year-old suspect after catching him trying to take another bather’s backpack. Officers took over and returned the bag to its owner before arresting the suspect for theft.
A third case involved plain-clothes officers on patrol who spotted a man acting suspiciously, looking closely at items near towels. The officers maintained discrete surveillance and intervened after watching the 25-year-old man grab two bags from under a parasol and walk away. The victims, who were swimming in the sea at the time, valued their recovered property, including mobile phones and electronics, at 3,010 euro. The suspect was promptly arrested.
