The Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products has ordered the withdrawal and marketing ban for numerous slimming products, including Slim U, Slim U Pro, P57 Hoodia, Bikini Siluet Perfect, Slim 24, 14 Día, Fatzorb, AB Slim, Get Lean, Slimina, Burn and Slim, Body Slim, Black Panther, Aphrodite Thermoslim Coffee, Aphrodite Plus, Aphrodite LipoDetox, Aphrodite Green Plus, Aphrodite Forte Plus, Aphrodite Forte, Li Da Ultra, Pineapple Slimming Peptide and Pezo Mega. These items contain sibutramine, an active ingredient suspended in the European Union, which was omitted from the product labels.
The action follows notification from the Consumer, Environment and Doping Section of the General Police Headquarters during Operation Triki. Official laboratory analyses revealed that all the specified items contain sibutramine. Furthermore, Fatzorb, AB Slim, Get Lean, Slimina, Burn and Slim, Body Slim, and Black Panther were found to contain phenolphthalein. These inclusions classify the items as medicines despite lacking evaluation and authorisation, while labels falsely present them as natural products to conceal their true composition.
Sibutramine acts as an appetite suppressant that increases calorie expenditure, heart rate and blood pressure, potentially causing clinically significant issues. Cases of arrhythmias, ischaemic heart disease and serious vascular events have been linked to its use. Additional adverse effects include dry mouth, headaches, insomnia and constipation, alongside numerous medication interactions. Prescription drugs containing sibutramine were previously suspended across the European Union in January 2010 due to serious cardiovascular risks.
Phenolphthalein functions as a stimulant laxative that increases intestinal motility and inhibits electrolyte and water absorption. The primary risks associated with this substance involve excessive fluid and electrolyte loss, intestinal protein loss, hypocalcaemia and malabsorption driven by heightened intestinal hypermobility.
