National Police officers in the town of Elche have arrested four individuals aged between 28 and 36 for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking and electricity fraud. The arrests were made as part of an investigation into a criminal group dedicated to trafficking narcotic substances, according to a statement from the police headquarters.
The investigation began following the identification of two men who formed part of the group under investigation. From that moment, officers established surveillance and tracking operations that enabled them to locate their respective homes. They were also able to confirm that both men frequently visited an industrial warehouse located in a district of Elche.
During the surveillance, investigators observed that the two suspects maintained various contacts with people allegedly linked to drug trafficking. They gathered evidence indicating that the warehouse could be housing an indoor cannabis plantation.
The investigation also established that the suspects were using several of the properties under investigation to store and supply narcotic substances.
Once sufficient evidence of the criminal activity carried out by the suspects was gathered, officers requested entry and search warrants from the judicial authority for three properties linked to the investigation.
During the searches conducted at the suspects’ homes, officers seized 1.5 kilograms of cocaine, 23,000 euro in cash, a vacuum packing machine, six precision scales, and three high-end vehicles used by the detainees to distribute the narcotic substances.
Furthermore, an indoor cannabis plantation containing 255 plants was located inside the warehouse and dismantled. As a result of the operation, four people were arrested as alleged perpetrators of drug trafficking and electricity fraud offences.
Technicians from the electrical supply company carried out checks at the warehouse housing the cannabis plantation, confirming the presence of an illegal connection to the public power grid.
Following the completion of police proceedings, two of the detainees were placed at the disposal of the duty court of instruction in Elche, which ordered their remand in prison.
