Torrevieja City Council has secured the Sports Quality Seal, a prestigious award recognising the work and management carried out by the Department of Sports, led by Councillor Diana Box Alonso, across its facilities, services, programmes, and overall promotion of physical activity.
The distinction is promoted by the International Institute of Excellence and Sports Certifications (IINS), via the Institute for Sports Quality, alongside the Spanish Sports Association (ADESP). It officially certifies the standards of municipal sports policies, activities, facilities, and programmes.
Securing the seal highlights the local authority’s commitment to continuous improvement for its citizens, whilst using sport to drive health, social cohesion, tourism, and economic development.
Expressing her satisfaction, Diana Box Alonso stated that the award is magnificent news for Torrevieja. She noted it reflects the efforts of the Department of Sports, municipal technicians, local clubs, entities, and everyone involved in the city’s sporting community. She added that while Torrevieja boasts impressive infrastructure, a wide range of activities, and a strong capacity to host competitions, the goal remains to continuously improve the facilities, services, and opportunities offered to residents.
The Sports Quality Seal acts as an external quality assurance scheme for local authorities. It evaluates public sports management, equipment, municipal programmes, and user services. For Torrevieja, the endorsement strengthens its visibility and positioning as a key sports destination for competitions, training camps, and events across various disciplines.
To maintain the required standards, the certification model includes annual evaluations of facilities, services, and programmes. Torrevieja City Council will continue modernising its facilities and improving services to support grassroots sports, local clubs, and major events. Diana Box concluded by emphasizing that the certification is an incentive to keep working so residents remain proud of their local sports provisions.
