The Ayuntamiento de Torrevieja has awarded the contract for drafting the project and overseeing the site works to repair and improve the entire 6.7-kilometre stretch of the municipal Vía Verde. The contract has been awarded to the joint venture UTE Cuatroteca for a total of 77,129.55 euro.
Under the terms of the award, the winning company will have two months to draw up the comprehensive technical document. Once finalised and approved, the firm will subsequently be responsible for site supervision as well as health and safety coordination throughout the construction phase.
The Torrevieja Vía Verde follows the former Albatera to Torrevieja railway line, heading towards Acequión beach and running alongside the Laguna Rosa. The route has become a well-used route for pedestrians and cyclists for daily commuting, sport, and outdoor leisure.
The scope of the project covers the full 6,700 metres, beginning at kilometre zero beside the Museo de la Sal and ending at kilometre 6.7 at the CV-945 road. Along its initial stretch, the route features two segregated surfaces: an asphalt lane designated for cyclists and a paved section for pedestrians. From kilometre 3.4 onwards, the surface transitions into a single compacted dirt track that runs through reed beds, which serve as a natural barrier and habitat for local wildlife.
The technical project must define the specific solutions needed to create a safer, more comfortable route along the largely flat terrain, whilst protecting the surrounding natural landscape and the salt lakes. It will also consider public space enhancement, environmental sustainability, social participation, and the diverse uses and activities taking place along the corridor.
