Braille menus expand across hospitality venues in Benidorm

Benidorm’s hospitality sector is seeing a growth in Braille menus as part of an ongoing accessibility initiative. The Benidorm Association of Bars, Restaurants and Cafeterias, known as Abreca, announced yesterday, Thursday 24th September, that nine additional establishments are joining the Accessible Hospitality Network by introducing adapted braille menus, according to the City Council.

The newly participating venues include Ducado, Los Peces, Umai, Arrocería La Marina, Club Náutico, Mal Pas, El Mesón, Stagman Sport Bar, and Stagman Steak House. This expansion builds upon a multi-year project aimed at removing barriers and helping visually impaired individuals access local dining options more independently.

Alex Frattini, the vice president of Abreca, noted during the presentation that the goal is to reach 60 participating establishments. He stated that the area is a world leader in tourism and accessibility. With the latest additions, 40 venues now offer braille menus, reinforcing the sector’s commitment to inclusive service.

During the event, participants highlighted the importance of simple, effective measures to improve experiences for people with visual disabilities and to consolidate Benidorm as an accessible tourist destination. Sergio Barrera, regional director of ONCE, thanked Abreca for the initiative and encouraged other venues to join. He described the ongoing work as gratifying and noted that collaboration helps make Benidorm more accessible.

Abreca stated it will continue working to expand the network and encourage associated businesses to adopt tools that support a more inclusive industry. Closing the presentation, Mayor Toni Pérez remarked that everyday actions matter and praised Abreca as an active association committed to innovation and sustainability.
