A female hiker has been rescued by helicopter after sustaining a suspected tibia fracture while walking along a route in Vall de la Gallinera. The accident took place in a hard-to-reach area within the Alicante municipality, requiring the deployment of aerial resources to ensure a rapid evacuation and medical care.
The Provincial Firefighters Consortium of Alicante reported that the emergency call was received on Wednesday, 14th October, at 13:21 hours. The incident occurred on the Benissivà hiking route near Cova del Moro, a mountain location where ground access is difficult for emergency services.
The special mountain rescue group was dispatched alongside the firefighter helicopter. The aircraft managed to touch down close to the injured woman, enabling a faster intervention despite the challenging terrain.
Once the landing site was secured, team members reached the hiker and provided initial medical assistance. Firefighters confirmed the woman suffered a suspected broken tibia, an injury that left her unable to walk and made foot evacuation down the mountain unviable.
After being stabilised and immobilised, the rescue team transferred her aboard the helicopter to the Finestrat helipad. Health services were waiting at the facility to take charge of the patient for further evaluation and treatment.
Emergency rescues of this nature are frequent on demanding or stony mountain trails where falls can result in bone fractures. Utilising air support significantly cuts down evacuation times and prevents an injured person’s condition from deteriorating during a lengthy ground transport along tracks or paths.
