Mercadona

Spanish supermarket chain Mercadona has made 515 million euro profit in 2013, marking a new record in the current times of financial crisis, making 7 million euro more than 2012.

The company presented their annual results this week, showing how they had taken nearly 20 billion at the tills, an increase of 4% on last year.

The president of the company, Juan Roig, had to backtrack on forecasts that the company would make 15% less in 2013, despite their 508 million euro profit in 2012.

Roig, the fourth richest man in Spain, also pointed out how the company infrastructure has remained stable, with 74,000 workers who had received 257 million euro in target related bonuses, representing 25% of gross profit.
