The councillor for the coast of Orihuela, Martina Scheurer, has announced the completion of aesthetic work on one of the principle roundabouts on the main N-332 road, in the Campoamor area.
The work, which included the addition of plants and vegetation, coloured features, ornamental sand and artificial grass, cost a total of 18,000 euro.
With a small number of people criticising the expenditure on this feature when there are other elements of the coast in need of investment, Scheurer pointed out that this work was already assigned and budgeted since 2010, but there had been no attempts to have the work completed until now.
The money assigned to the project was “ring-fenced” and could not have been spent on anything else other than the completion of this contract.
There had been a further more recent delay because the work had been ignored previously, which meant that the relevant permission and authority of the national road authority had to begin again with a brand new application.
Other roundabouts in the municipality have also being undergoing outstanding work at the same time.
