HIGH SUMMER TEMPERATURES LEAD TO HEAVY RAIN WARNING

Meteorologists from the national weather centre are warning that as the effects of global warming are reaching the shores of Spain, resulting in an unusually dry spring, this autumn may be one of the worst on record.

Although many coming to the Costa Blanca may well appreciate the increase in sea temperatures, set to reach 25 degrees Celsius in the next few weeks, the increase in sea temperature could have devastating effects once the air temperature starts to drop after August, prompting warnings of heavy rains and even the dreaded “Gota Fría”.

Crops across the Valencia region have been devastated by the spring drought, with many growers simply abandoning their harvest. Now, it looks like the autumn will also prove devastating for the opposite reason, far too much rain.

Whilst infrastructure work is being carried out in places like the Orihuela Costa and Torrevieja, all that can be hoped for is that it is enough to carry those impending rain falls away from the properties, and the reality of how climate change is affecting us all may go some way to encourage us to try to change our own habits before it becomes too late.
